Canberra is a three hour car drive
from Sydney, and it is one of easy
driving, mainly along a 110 kph dual carriage
highway. If guests can spend an extra hour during this trip your host
suggests that you
exit a well signposted route to the Southern Highlands, and stop, look and shop
at the
quaint historic villages of Mittagong, Bowral, Mossvale and Berrima all
within ten minutes of each other. Each town is filled with antique and
collectable, gift and boutique shops, and sidewalk cafes.
An aeroplane flight from Sydney is only a half hour
journey. La
Perouse is a ten minute car ride, by taxi or car hire, from Canberra International Airport.
The interstate coach
terminal is in Canberra’s CBD, a six minute car
ride to La
Perouse. The railway station is only two minutes away by taxi.
Finding La Perouse
Bed & Breakfast
Located at 22 La Perouse Street, Griffith in the ACT, it is not
that difficult to find! To ensure that you or your taxi driver do not
become unnecessarily 'lost', bring the location map [on the website,
brochure, or your host's faxed copy] with you.
Most people in Canberra have heard of and know La Perouse Street - it is a very long
narrow road traversing the suburbs of Griffith and Narrabundah up to
Red Hill. It is well signposted on route and supposedly starts at Flinders Way, Griffith, ending at Mugga Way, Red Hill.
La
Perouse Bed & Breakfast is not in this long stretch of road!
It
is sited in the little known 3 block section of La Perouse Street, that is not aligned with
the main road, just 2 blocks behind Manuka Village.
Access is either by Flinders Way or Furneaux Street. If by Flinders Way,
drive uphill [northwards towards Parliament House] at the divided road
- dodge a
triangular garden bed.
If you are driving from Furneaux Street, in the suburb of
Forrest, where La Perouse Street actually starts, your
approach must be via Murray Crescent. Then one block along,
turn uphill at the little traffic island where Stokes Street merges with La Perouse Street.
Should you become temporarily 'lost' nearby, and/or you have driven
around
Parliament House two or more times, please telephone your host,
Heather Gaskell, on
0407 95 2857 or 6295 2857 and she will come to your rescue.
